Mele Broomes is an award-winning artist and choreographer, renowned for her multidisciplinary performances that blend dance, sound, and striking poetics.

Incorporating vocals and melodies, Mele transforms performance into a hybrid of theatre and live music. Her experimental, layered, and emotive vocals amplify both the emotional and physical dimensions of her storytelling.

Her most recent work, through warm temperatures, was presented at the Actoral Festival in Marseille and was originally commissioned to open the 20th anniversary of the Edinburgh Art Festival UK’s largest Visual Art Festival.

Mele’s works have been showcased at venues and festivals, including Battersea Arts Centre (London), The Place (London), Theatre Centre (Canada), Cultura Inglesa Festival (Brazil), Edinburgh Art Festival, Dance International Glasgow, Whitechapel Gallery, and more.

As the founder and director of Body Remedy and co-founder of Project X Dance . Mele has spent 10 years developing Black and Poc artists development initiatives in Scotland.

Dictations (work in development)

Dictations is a multidisciplinary performance, artistically directed by Mele Broomes, that brings together live music, dance, and spoken word. Featuring an ensemble of 10 performers, including a live musicans, singers and rappers, the work delivers personal reflections and messages to loved ones.

Dictations explores the duality of control and surrender—how much of our lives we can dictate, and how much is shaped by forces beyond our control. The performance reflects on love, sacrifice, and the legacies of our relationships. The messages honor the choices, mistakes, and journeys of those who came before us, acknowledging how their experiences have shaped the voices we have today—voices that continue to influence our paths.

While life’s challenges often feel beyond our control, there is power in the choices we make and in the love and spirit of those who inspire us. Dictations is both a celebration and a reclamation of the space we carve to pursue our dreams and aspirations.
